Republican Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana criticized Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker during a recent appearance on FOX News, responding to criticism of former President Donald Trump’s approach to crime reduction.

Kennedy commented on the drop in crime rates in Washington, D.C., attributing the decline to increased law enforcement efforts associated with Trump’s policies. He said, “Well, I don’t know about you, but I’m against crime. I think most Americans are, unless they happen to be a criminal or they happen to be like a rock, only dumber. It’s also a fact that over the last five or ten years, many of our major cities in America are worse. If you measure it in terms of crime and violence and education, poverty, family formation, it’s easiest, not easy, but it’s easiest of the problems I’ve just mentioned to deal with crime.”

The senator went on to say that sending law enforcement officials into Washington has led to a decrease in violent crime: “And it’s working. We’ve sent in law enforcement officials to Washington. Crime violence is down. I don’t understand Governor Pritzker’s pushback. He’s got a crime problem in Chicago. I mean, even the mafia is leaving Chicago because of the crime. I suspect Governor Pritzker, he seems to view random violence as preferable to having help from federal officials coming in.”

Kennedy further speculated that Pritzker’s opposition stems from political differences: “And I think it’s probably because of his animosity toward President Trump. If President Trump came out in favor of breathing to survive, Governor Pritzker would probably hold his breath.”

The remarks were also shared by Kennedy on social media: “Gov. JB Pritzker seems to view random violence as preferable to getting help from federal officials. That’s because of his animosity toward President Trump.

If President Trump came out in favor of breathing, Gov. Pritzker would probably hold his breath.”

There was no immediate response from Governor Pritzker regarding Kennedy’s statements.
