Democratic Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania has publicly congratulated former President Donald Trump for his role in brokering a peace agreement between Israel and Hamas. Fetterman made his remarks on the social media platform X, following Trump’s announcement on Truth Social that both parties had agreed to the first phase of a peace plan.

Fetterman, known for his strong support of Israel, wrote, “I congratulate @POTUS on this historic peace plan that releases all the hostages. Now, enduring peace in the region is possible. Our parties are different but we have a shared ironclad commitment to Israel and its people.” He included a screenshot of Trump’s post in his message.

The agreement comes after a period of conflict that began with the October 7, 2023, attack by Hamas on Israel, which resulted in deaths, kidnappings, and other violent acts.

Trump stated in his Truth Social post, “I am very proud to announce that Israel and Hamas have both signed off on the first Phase of our Peace Plan. This means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line as the first steps toward a Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace.”

In addition, Fetterman indicated openness to the idea of Trump receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. When asked if Trump deserved the honor, Fetterman responded, “Well, the whole point of having a Nobel Peace Prize is for ending wars and promoting peace.”
