Former White House spokesman Sean Spicer has criticized media coverage of former President Donald Trump’s summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. Spicer appeared on the 2WAY show and expressed frustration at the focus on ceremonial details, such as the red carpet used during the leaders’ arrival.
“I was sort of blown away … this has been the problem from Trump day one. They always worry about the process. ‘Oh my god, the carpet was red.’ Who gives a crap?” Spicer said. “If you get peace, if you stop people from killing and end the destruction, what the hell does it matter? And yet all of these people have their panties in a wad about, ‘Oh my god, he rolled out the thing.’”
Spicer also pointed to Trump’s decision to include a military flyover featuring a B-2A Spirit stealth bomber as part of Putin’s welcome. He described it as an intentional display of military power rather than a diplomatic gesture.
“Do you know what a flex it was to see that B2 fly over the top? Putin looks up. That wasn’t a tip of diplomacy,” he continued. “That was a, ‘Hey buddy, guess what we got coming up your butt if you do this again. We just used it in Iran.’”
The remarks were made after networks such as ABC News and CNN highlighted aspects like the red carpet during their coverage of the event.
A clip from Spicer’s appearance circulated on social media platforms, showing him criticizing news outlets for prioritizing discussion of ceremony over efforts toward peace between Russia and Ukraine.
“They always worry about the process. ‘Oh my god, the carpet was red!’ Who gives a cr*p!?”
“If you get peace, if you stop people from k*lling and end the destruction, what the h*ll does it matter!? And yet all…”
