He drew parallels to his own experiences, stating: “On this day in 1970, César Chávez was jailed for fighting for farm workers’ rights. His courage reminds us of the power of collective action. Like him, I’ve been jailed fighting for voting rights—we must get into good trouble to defend democracy and dignity for all.”
Later that day, he addressed concerns about intellectual property and trade crimes related to China. As the ranking member of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Intellectual Property, he emphasized bipartisan efforts to tackle these issues through legislation: “As ranking member of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Intellectual Property, I have participated in multiple bipartisan hearings regarding the IP and trade crimes threat posed by the Chinese government.
