A political event in Virginia drew attention after a protester displayed a sign directed at Winsome Earle-Sears, the current Lieutenant Governor and Republican candidate for Governor. The incident occurred during a rally for Sears’ gubernatorial campaign.

The sign, held by a white woman, read:

“Hey Winsome If Trans Can’t Share Your Bathroom Then Blacks Can’t Share My Water Fountain”

The protest referenced Sears’ opposition to policies allowing boys in girls’ locker rooms and other gender-related initiatives supported by some on the political left.

Social media users reacted strongly to images of the sign. Comments ranged from criticism of perceived hypocrisy among liberal protesters to broader discussions about race and political discourse. Rita Panahi wrote, “Vile. One of the reasons the Left is obsessed with race is their virulent racism. So much of what they say is pure projection.” Gunther Eagleman posted, “Democrats are the party of RACISM! Proof,” along with an image of the sign.

Some commentators questioned whether Democratic leaders would respond publicly to the incident. A post from GOP’s account stated: “This is the ugly hypocrisy of the Left on full display. Will Spanberger condemn it? Of course not — she can’t be bothered Vote for @winwithwinsome.” Corey A. DeAngelis commented, “A white liberal woman just held up a sign saying ‘if trans can’t share your bathroom then blacks can’t share my water fountain.’ The sign is addressed to Winsome Sears, a black woman running for Virginia Governor who opposes letting boys in girls’ bathrooms.”

Other reactions included comparisons to historical segregation and criticisms about contemporary political rhetoric regarding race relations in America.

Video clips circulated online appeared to show the moment when the protester realized her sign was drawing significant public attention.

As discussion continues online and within Virginia politics, questions remain regarding responses from local Democratic officials or candidates.
