Former President Barack Obama, former Attorney General Eric Holder, and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi are scheduled to participate in a fundraiser on Martha’s Vineyard for Democratic redistricting efforts. The event, set for August 19, is organized by the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC), which Holder chairs.
According to an invitation reported by The Hill and Politico, the dinner and discussion will support the NDRC and its affiliated groups. Democrats are focusing on encouraging blue states to redraw their House maps as a response to Republican redistricting activities in Texas. In Texas, former President Donald Trump has indicated plans to target five additional House seats for Republicans.
The event’s location on Martha’s Vineyard highlights the island’s popularity among prominent Democrats. Massachusetts currently has no Republican representation in Congress, despite more than a third of its voters supporting Trump in recent elections. This situation reflects broader concerns about gerrymandering practices that have resulted in single-party dominance in several New England states.
“Obama is named as a special guest on an invitation for an event hosted by former Attorney General Eric Holder, the chair of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC), and Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), according to an invitation obtained by The Hill and first reported by Politico.”
“The invitation says the dinner and discussion will benefit the NDRC and affiliated groups on Aug. 19.”
“Democrats are pushing for blue states to consider redrawing their House maps to offset similar efforts taking place in Texas, where President Trump has said he’s looking to pick up five House seats.”
