The New York Yankees held a moment of silence for Charlie Kirk, the conservative activist who was assassinated during a Turning Point event at Utah Valley University. The tribute took place before the team’s game against the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday evening.

During the ceremony, Yankee Stadium displayed an image of Kirk on its jumbotron. The Yankees’ official social media account posted: “Before tonight’s game we held a moment of silence in memoriam of Charlie Kirk. Kirk founded the youth activist group ‘Turning Point USA’ and had become a fixture on college campuses. Charlie Kirk, a husband and father of two children, was 31 years old.”

Kirk’s death has led to widespread reactions from both the sports community and political commentators.
