Museum School Avondale Estates records 23 Asian students in 2024-25 enrollment

In the 2024-25 school year, Museum School Avondale Estates enrolled 23 Asian students—a figure unchanged from the prior year—according to the Georgia Department of Education.

Total enrollment at Museum School Avondale Estates reached 588 for the 2024-25 school year. Asian students accounted for 4% of the student body, making them the school’s smallest demographic group.

The campus is part of the DeKalb County School District, which is headquartered in Decatur.

Across the district’s 129 schools, Indian Creek Elementary School had the largest number of Asian students in 2024-25, enrolling 442.

National Center for Education Statistics data reports Georgia’s public school racial and ethnic breakdown as 36.4% Black, 35.9% white, 18.1% Hispanic, 4% Asian, 4.6% multiracial, 0.2% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 0.1% Pacific Islander.

Chronic absenteeism continues to be a significant challenge in Georgia, with 20.7% of students missing at least 10% of school days in 2024, the Georgia Department of Education said. The state launched new initiatives like a real-time attendance dashboard, public awareness efforts, and targeted interventions for districts with higher absentee rates.

In 2025, legislators in Georgia approved an update to school attendance laws, making expulsion for absenteeism alone no longer permissible. The new law also introduces additional reporting obligations and aligns attendance policies with alternative diploma pathway programs.

By 2026, Georgia’s average student-teacher ratio was around 14:1, compared to a 15:1 average nationwide.
