The U.S. State Department has revoked more than 6,000 student visas in 2025 due to violations including overstaying, criminal activity, and support for terrorism. This follows an earlier report from April indicating that about 4,000 visas had already been rescinded under new criteria established by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

The policy was first outlined in March by Secretary Rubio, who stated that foreign students who commit crimes or express support for terrorism would no longer be allowed to retain their student visas. The move is part of a broader effort by the Trump administration to increase scrutiny on immigration and enforce visa regulations among those attending academic institutions in the United States.

A senior State Department official told Fox News Digital: “Every single student visa revoked under the Trump Administration has happened because the individual has either broken the law or expressed support for terrorism while in the United States. About 4,000 visas alone have been revoked because these visitors broke the law while visiting our country, including records of assault and DUIs.”

The State Department indicated that those affected included individuals involved in pro-Palestinian protests as well as others found to have committed offenses such as assault, burglary, and driving under the influence.

Public reaction on social media showed some support for the revocations. Several users expressed approval of the administration’s actions regarding student visa enforcement.
