Journalist Mark Halperin appeared on the Megyn Kelly podcast this week to discuss the potential political impact of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk’s assassination. Halperin suggested that the event could significantly affect the outcome of next year’s midterm elections.
Halperin expressed surprise at how Democrats have responded to Kirk’s death, noting what he perceives as a lack of understanding about Kirk’s influence and following. “They don’t know what a threat he is. They know so little about him. I think this could change the entire midterms,” Halperin said during his appearance on “The Megyn Kelly Show.” He compared the possible galvanizing effect of Kirk’s assassination to that of the Dobbs v. Jackson decision, emphasizing that Democrats are not fully aware of Kirk’s reach or significance.
Megyn Kelly added her perspective, stating that many people are distancing themselves from the Democratic Party due to reactions from some on the left regarding Kirk’s murder.
The discussion highlighted differing responses within the Democratic Party, with some members celebrating Kirk’s death and others attributing blame to former President Donald Trump’s rhetoric. Halperin argued that Democrats continue to demonize Kirk posthumously because of his connection to Trump, saying, “Charlie must be demonized in death because he’s close to Trump….I think this could change the entire midterms.”
A video clip from their conversation was shared on social media, further amplifying their viewpoints on how recent events might influence voter sentiment ahead of the elections.
