U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, Jeanine Pirro, has provided an update on the Trump administration’s efforts to address crime in Washington, DC. In a recent video statement, Pirro outlined the results of a surge operation that began on August 7 and continued through November 17.
According to Pirro, law enforcement made 6,362 arrests and seized 610 guns during this period. She compared these numbers to data from 2023, stating: “The violent crimes were 60 percent higher in 2023 than they are right now as a result of the surge. Carjackings in 2023 were 80 percent higher. Homicides were 72 percent higher. And violent gun crimes were 75 percent higher.”
Pirro emphasized the impact of coordinated law enforcement action: “The difference even between 90 days before the surge and the surge is dramatic,” she said. “It shows the difference that it makes when law enforcement works together, when the focus is making sure that criminals are apprehended, when the deterrent effect of law enforcement being on the street is ever-present, then we’re able to really protect the people who live in the district.”
In her message shared on social media, Pirro added: “Thanks to @POTUS and our law enforcement partners, there have been 6,362 arrests and 610 guns seized in DC. When law enforcement works together and criminals are apprehended, citizens are safer.”
Pirro’s remarks highlight a significant decrease in major crimes compared to previous years during this focused effort.
