GBI Arrests Mitchell County High School Girls Varsity Basketball Coach on Several Charges

Derrick Harris, age 44, has been arrested and charged with one count of enticing a child for indecent purposes, one count sexual assault by persons with supervisory authority, one count sexual battery, and two counts solicitation of sodomy. He was taken to the Mitchell County Jail.

The GBI was requested on February 16, 2023, by the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office to investigate allegations of inappropriate sexual contact and advances by Harris, who was the Mitchell County High School Girls Varsity Basketball Coach.

This investigation is active and ongoing.
