A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to Dekalb County in Illinois on September 26, 2024. The request, made by DeKalb Times, sought comprehensive details regarding the county’s vendor payments.
Specifically, we at DeKalb Times requested a list of all payments made to vendors from January 1, 2024, until September 26, 2024. The desired information includes the name of the vendor, the date of the transaction, a description of the transaction, and the amount paid.
As a media organization dedicated to providing accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe access to such public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the public.
We have also expressed our eligibility for a fee waiver as a media professional involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. We await Dekalb County’s response and will continue to strive for transparency in local government operations.
