On Thursday, a federal grand jury in the Eastern District of Virginia indicted New York Attorney General Letitia James. The charges against James include bank fraud under 18 U.S.C. Section 1344 and making false statements to a financial institution under 18 U.S.C. Section 1014, according to the Department of Justice.
Following the indictment, CNN anchor Kasie Hunt commented on air that every American commits mortgage fraud. The statement was made during a segment discussing the charges against Letitia James.
Federal Housing Director Bill Pulte responded to Hunt’s remarks by stating, “We will start by requesting information into the VERY concerning public statements of Ms. Kasie Hunt that she has knowledge of individuals who are committing alleged mortgage bank fraud. If Ms. Hunt is aware of anyone committing fraud, we will need to know — and now.”
A video clip of Hunt’s comments circulated on social media, drawing further attention to her statement.
