Nine American Indian or Alaska Native students enrolled at Druid Hills Middle School in the 2024-25 year, a figure unchanged from the prior year, state data from the Georgia Department of Education show.

Total enrollment at Druid Hills Middle School reached 988 students for 2024-25. American Indian or Alaska Native students accounted for 1% of all students at the school, representing the smallest ethnic group there.

The school belongs to the DeKalb County School District, with its central office based in Decatur.

Among DeKalb County School District’s 129 schools, Chamblee Charter High School had the largest number of American Indian or Alaska Native students in 2024-25, recording 18 enrolled students.

The National Center for Education Statistics reported that among Georgia public school students, about 36.4% identified as Black, 35.9% as white, 18.1% Hispanic, 4% Asian, 4.6% multiracial, 0.2% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 0.1% Pacific Islander.

Chronic absenteeism continues to challenge Georgia schools after the pandemic, with 20.7% of students absent for 10% or more school days in 2024, said the Georgia Department of Education. The department addressed the issue with a statewide attendance dashboard, a public awareness effort, and focused assistance for the most affected districts to help improve daily attendance rates.

In 2025, Georgia updated school attendance legislation, prohibiting expulsions based solely on absenteeism. The update introduces enhanced reporting procedures and supports new graduation pathways for students.

By 2026, the state’s average student-to-teacher ratio was about 14:1, which compares favorably to the national average of 15:1.
