DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management crews are continuing work to repair a 36-inch broken water main at 3124 Midway Road, according to an update issued Monday afternoon.

Officials said that water pressure has been fully restored in the affected area and there are no reported outages at this time. Residents and businesses nearby may still notice brown water. The department advises running faucets both inside and outside buildings to help clear internal plumbing systems.

Traffic controls remain in place as repairs continue, and motorists are being asked to avoid the area if possible due to expected delays.

Customers who continue experiencing low water pressure should contact the DeKalb County Watershed Department by email at dekalbwaterops@dekalbcountyga.gov or by phone at 770-270-6243.

While this incident has not directly impacted local school enrollment, DeKalb County schools saw a decrease of 2.2% in enrollment during the 2022-23 school year compared with the previous year, enrolling a total of 98,287 students (https://www.gadoe.org/). During that same period, white students made up about 14% of the student population (https://www.gadoe.org/).

“Water pressure has been fully restored and there are currently no reported water outages. Customers in the affected area may experience brown water and are encouraged to run the faucets inside and outside their homes/businesses to clear the internal plumbing,” county officials stated.

“Motorists are asked to please avoid the area if possible and expect traffic delays. Traffic controls are in place as the repairs are being made,” according to officials.
