The DeKalb County School District (DCSD) has reported an increase in the number of students graduating during the summer session. On August 8, a total of 142 seniors received their diplomas at a ceremony held at Georgia Piedmont Technical College’s DeKalb Conference Center. This figure represents a rise from the 120 summer graduates recorded in 2024.
District officials attribute this growth to new initiatives implemented under Superintendent Dr. Horton. The district launched the Post-Secondary P.U.S.H. Plan, which aims to provide more opportunities for college and career exploration for high school students. The plan also focuses on strengthening academic standards and expanding post-secondary support services such as scholarship workshops and personalized counseling.
“We have 142 graduates. That doubles the number of graduates we graduated last year and years prior. This amazing effort is a result of our Board approving a new structure,” said Dr. Horton. “Students do not fail; it’s the systems we create that fail students, and we’re no longer accepting that in the DeKalb County School District.”
Among individual schools, Elizabeth Andrews High School had the highest number of summer graduates with 65 students, followed by Cross Keys High School with 20 and Stephenson High School with 14.
The district extended congratulations to all summer 2025 graduates and wished them success in their future pursuits.
