DeKalb County will open several warming centers from December 29 to 31 in response to forecasts of freezing temperatures and hazardous wind chills. The county announced that the centers will begin operating at 6:30 p.m. each day and remain available through Wednesday.
The following locations will serve as warming centers: Exchange Park Intergenerational Center at 2771 Columbia Dr., Decatur (open 24 hours), Frontline Response International at 2585 Gresham Rd SE, Atlanta (open 24 hours), St. Vincent de Paul at 2050-C Chamblee Tucker Rd, Chamblee, and Mason Mill Recreation Center at 1340 McConnell Dr, Decatur.
Transportation to the warming centers is being coordinated by Frontline Response International, contracted by DeKalb County to assist individuals during extreme weather. All transportation routes originate from Frontline Response Headquarters (2585 Gresham Rd SE, Atlanta) with initial pickups scheduled for completion by 7:30 p.m. Final sweeps will continue until 10 p.m., ending promptly at that time.
Individuals seeking assistance can also arrive directly at Frontline HQ beginning at noon on Monday, December 29. “Frontline Response International is contracted by DeKalb County to serve individuals in need during extreme weather conditions. Individuals may arrive directly at Frontline HQ beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Friday for assistance with warming center placement and additional services.”

Recent data shows that DeKalb County schools saw a decline in enrollment of about 2.2% during the 2022-23 school year compared to the previous year. The total student enrollment was reported as 98,287 students for that period according to the Georgia Department of Education (https://www.gadoe.org/). Additionally, white students comprised approximately 14% of the student body during the same school year (https://www.gadoe.org/).
