Colonel Douglas T. Edwards is a native of Cincinnati Ohio. A graduate of the United States Naval Academy in 1986, Colonel Edwards went on to the Basic School at Quantico and commissioned into the Marine Corps as a Second Lieutenant. First stationed in El Toro, California Colonel Edwards rose in the ranks to Platoon Commander. In 1990 Edwards was sent to Camp Hanson in Japan where he supported Desert Shield and Desert Strom Operations.

In 1995, Colonel Edwards left active duty and joined the Marine Corps Reserves. During this transition he moved to Tacoma, Washington where he was the Officer in Charge of the Peacetime Wartime Support Team. In 1996, Colonel Edwards was promoted to the rank of Major and was also the year he relocated to Doraville. In 2002 Edwards began a stretch of tours as a Logistics Officer in South Korea, where he assisted in numerous Homeland Defense and Defense Support Civil Authorities Exercises.

In 2016 Colonel Edwards retired after 35 years of service. Since retiring Edwards has served in numerous executive level leadership roles in the environmental and civil engineering consulting industry. Currently he is the Senior Vice President for a national construction management firm. Even after retiring, Colonel Edwards continues to serve, he chairs a scholarship committee for the Marine Corps Coordinating Council of Georgia as well as Rev. Senator Warnock’s Congressional Service Academy Nominating Committee. Locally, Colonel Edwards serves on the Doraville Downtown Development Authority, where he acts as Vice Chair, and as a member of the Doraville Urban Redevelopment Agency.

Upon receiving the award, Colonel Edwards thanked Council Member Evans and the rest of council for the honor. Edwards reflected on his and his family’s journey to Doraville from the outskirts of Metro Atlanta. Colonel Evans is looking forward to and is excited about the future of Doraville and being a part of this up-and-coming community.
