CNN data analyst Harry Enten has reported that California gubernatorial candidate Katie Porter’s campaign has experienced a significant decline in her chances of becoming the next governor. This comes after recent viral videos surfaced showing Porter in heated exchanges—first with a journalist during an interview, and later with a staff member who appeared on camera.
Enten discussed the impact of these incidents during an appearance on “Laura Coates Live.” He noted that Porter’s odds, as measured by the Kalshi prediction market, have dropped sharply. “They have been heard around the world and I think that Katie Porter is making history because she has potentially annihilated her chances to be the next governor of California more so than any other candidate I’ve ever seen so quickly, my goodness gracious,” Enten said. “What are we talking about right here? Well, let’s take a look.
Chance to be the next California governor, according to the Kalshi prediction market, Katie Porter’s chances have fallen through the floor. Just two days ago, she was the plurality leader in the prediction markets at 40%. Now, get this, her chance has fallen by more than half to just 16%, my goodness gracious.”
Enten further observed that Porter is now trailing behind Senator Alex Padilla in predictions, despite Padilla not having officially entered the race.
Social media metrics indicate a surge in public attention toward Porter following these events. According to Enten’s analysis shared on Twitter/X, Google searches for her name have increased by 10,000% since the videos were released.
Speculation remains about the source of these videos and their distribution to media outlets. Some suggest they may have come from within Democratic circles seeking to push Porter out of contention due to concerns about her reputation and campaign viability.
Despite these setbacks and widespread discussion about her future in the race, there is uncertainty as to whether Porter will choose to withdraw from the gubernatorial contest.
