City of Decatur issued the following announcement on June 15.

The fee and fine schedule for the City of Decatur Municipal Court has been modified pursuant to Senate Bill 249 (SB 249), which passed during the 2020 state legislative session.

SB 249 requires the application of a surcharge for all state traffic violations.  Although Senate Bill 249 became effective July 1, 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic and accompanying challenges including the Court’s subsequent closure, the surcharges have not been imposed until now.  Increases to the city of Decatur Municipal Court Fee and Fine Schedule will become effective on August 1, 2022.

111e surcharges, like all other surcharges, are not paid to the City of Decatur. Surcharges are collected by the City of Decatur Municipal Court and submitted to the state, pursuant state legislation.

The Court encourages anyone who believes they may have an outstanding matter in the City of Decatur Municipal Court to contact the Court immediately to schedule a court date and/or pay any imposed fine before August 1, 2022 to avoid the additional surcharge adjustment cost.

The City of Decatur Municipal Court is located at 420 W. Trinity Place, Decatur, GA, 30030. Contact us at 678-553-6655 or visit the city’s website at www.decaturga.com.
