Reports from the Georgia Department of Education show that Cedar Grove Elementary School had four white students enrolled in the 2024-25 school year.
The total student body was 483 students during that period. White students represented 1% of the population, making them the smallest demographic group at the school.
The school is part of DeKalb County School District, headquartered in Decatur.
Out of 129 schools in the DeKalb County School District, Dunwoody High School recorded the largest number of white students enrolled in 2024-25, with 728 students.
The National Center for Education Statistics reports that Georgia public school students were about 36.4% Black, 35.9% white, 18.1% Hispanic, 4% Asian, 4.6% multiracial, 0.2% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 0.1% Pacific Islander.
The Georgia Department of Education has identified chronic absenteeism as an ongoing problem in state schools since the pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing 10% or more school days in 2024. To address this, GaDOE initiated new statewide efforts, such as a real-time dashboard for attendance, a public awareness push, and targeted assistance for districts most affected by absenteeism.
In 2025, legislation updated Georgia’s school attendance rules to prohibit expulsions solely due to absenteeism. The law also created new reporting standards and supports programs that help students obtain diplomas using alternative means.
By 2026, Georgia posted an average student-to-teacher ratio of around 14:1, which is better than the national average of 15:1.
