Bryan Kohberger, who is serving four consecutive life sentences at the Idaho Maximum Security Institution near Boise, has requested a transfer to another unit after reporting harassment from fellow inmates. Kohberger was convicted for the November 2022 murders of four University of Idaho students: Ethan Chapin, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Kaylee Goncalves.
After being indicted by a secret grand jury last year on charges including four counts of first-degree murder and one count of burglary, Kohberger accepted a plea deal that spared him the death penalty in exchange for life imprisonment without parole. He is currently held in solitary confinement on J Block and receives one hour of outdoor time per day.
Reports indicate that other inmates have been verbally taunting Kohberger through vents. According to documents obtained by NewsNation host Brian Entin, some threats have included sexually explicit language directed at Kohberger. In a resident concern form addressed to prison officials, Kohberger wrote: “Not engaging in any of the recent flooding/striking, as well as being subject to minute-by-minute verbal threats/harassment on that and other bases (sic), tier 2 of J-block is an environment that I wish to transfer from if possible. I request transfer to B block immediately. I wish to speak with you soon.”
Entin also reported that an inmate known as ‘Peru’ allegedly threatened Kohberger with vulgar language and another inmate made additional explicit comments.
Kohberger has also filed complaints about the food served in prison, noting his vegan dietary preferences.
