Homelessness has increased during the Biden administration, according to PBS. In Washington, DC, Donald Trump has implemented measures aimed at reducing crime. His team is now considering expanding these operations to other cities.

Some critics from the Democratic side argue that Trump’s efforts are focused mainly on Democrat-controlled areas in blue states and point out that red states also experience high levels of crime, including places like Louisiana. However, analysis suggests that while red states do have significant crime rates, much of this crime is concentrated in cities governed by Democrats.

Supporters of this view often challenge opponents to name a major city currently run by Republicans. A recent analysis by Issues and Insights examined which political parties control the deadliest cities in the United States.

California Governor Gavin Newsom recently criticized President Trump for not addressing crime in red states with high murder rates such as Louisiana. He suggested sending the National Guard to those areas. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem responded on “Face the Nation,” stating: “Absolutely,” when asked if the Trump administration would send National Guard troops into cities or states run by Republicans. “Every single city is evaluated for what we need to do there to make it safer.”

Despite this, data shows that even if federal action were taken in red states, deployments would likely target Democratic strongholds due to higher concentrations of violent crime in those areas.

The Issues and Insights analysis found:
– Of the 20 U.S. cities with the highest homicide rates, 12 are located in red states, but only one currently has a Republican mayor.
– Shreveport, Louisiana presently has a Republican mayor; however, Republicans have led the city only 11 times over the past 152 years.
– Birmingham, Alabama last had a Republican mayor 50 years ago.
– St. Louis, Missouri has not had a Republican mayor since 1949.
– Atlanta’s last Republican mayor served in 1879; New Orleans’ last was in 1872.

According to Issues and Insights: “Democrats have no argument for the crime problem because they own the crime problem.” The publication contends that Democrats have controlled many American cities—often for decades—and therefore bear responsibility for ongoing urban crime trends.
