Agnes Scott College issued the following announcement on Apr. 4.
Agnes Scott College President Leocadia I. Zak has named Kimberly J. Reeves ’12 the college’s new executive director of the Center for Sustainability effective July 1. Kimberly will succeed Susan A. Kidd ’78, MAT ’07 in this role.
Kimberly’s engagement with the Center for Sustainability began with a college work-study job in her first year as the Office of Sustainability’s first student employee. Following graduation, she served as a sustainability fellow in the center before enrolling in graduate school. She has interned with multiple organizations, including the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Georgia Recycling Coalition, Fernbank Museum, Athens-Clarke County Recycling Division and the University of Georgia’s Office of Sustainability and Center for Community Design and Preservation. Since 2014, Kimberly has been affiliated with the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, where she has led the Office of Sustainability for the past two years. She holds a master’s degree in environmental planning and design from The University of Georgia.
“To say that I am grateful and excited for the opportunity to return to the Agnes Scott community is only scratching the surface,” states Reeves. “In this role, I will be standing on the shoulders of an amazing and successful leader, mentor and innovator. I will strive to continue the advancement of Susan Kidd’s legacy in sustainability, climate change and intersectional environmental justice. Reaching the college’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2037 will take a community effort, including leadership from our students, faculty, staff, alumnae and greater Decatur and Atlanta residents. I am excited and filled with hope to be part of this chapter of Agnes Scott’s mission to educate women to engage the intellectual and social challenges of our time.”
Originally from Lilburn, Georgia, Kimberly will be returning to many family members in, or around, this community. Sustainability work runs in the family. Her sister works for Cox Conserves, her uncle just retired from the EPA, and her cousin was an ASC Fellow who helped manage the Rebekah Scott Hall LEED Platinum renovation.
Named among the Top 20 Green Colleges in America by The Princeton Review, notable accomplishments in sustainability at Agnes Scott include: STARS Gold certification, a 40 percent reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions made possible in part by a nationally recognized $2 million Green Revolving Fund, installation of two geothermal HVAC systems and a quarter megawatt of solar power, restoration of an historic building to LEED Platinum, designation as a Level II Arboretum, and the creation of a joint Climate Resilience Plan with the city of Decatur.
