In the 2024-25 school year, Arabia Mountain High School – Academy of Engineering- Medic enrolled 1,115 African American students, which was a 3.6% decrease compared to the prior year, according to the Georgia Department of Education.

Reports show the total student enrollment for Arabia Mountain High School – Academy of Engineering- Medic reached 1,187 during 2024-25. African American students represented 94% of the student population, making them the most represented demographic at the school.

Located in the DeKalb County School District, the school’s central office is based in Decatur.

Of the 129 schools in the DeKalb County School District, Lithonia High School had the largest population of African American students in 2024-25, with 1,288 enrolled.

Statewide, enrollment in Georgia public schools exceeded 1.7 million students, as outlined in the Georgia Department of Education’s Fiscal Year 2026-1 report. The highest enrollment was seen in elementary grades with 787,206 students (45.9%), followed by middle schools with 388,733 students (22.7%), and high schools with 539,092 students (31.4%).

Chronic absenteeism continues to affect Georgia schools after the pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing at least 10% of their school days in 2024, according to the Georgia Department of Education. The GaDOE created a statewide program that features a live attendance dashboard, increased public outreach, and focused support for districts with the highest need in order to improve daily school attendance.

Legislation passed by Georgia lawmakers in 2025 updated school attendance policies, barring expulsion solely for absenteeism. The new law also introduces additional reporting measures and works alongside efforts to offer alternate pathways to earning diplomas.

By 2026, Georgia reported an average student-teacher ratio near 14:1, an improvement over the national average of 15:1.
