According to ABC News reporter Jonathan Karl, the relationship between former President Barack Obama and President Joe Biden has significantly worsened following the 2024 presidential election. Karl discussed the issue during an interview with Katie Couric on her podcast, referencing a recent incident at Café Milano in Washington, D.C., where both Obama and Biden were present but did not interact.
“They didn’t interact at all, they were in the same restaurant?” Couric asked. “What’s their relationship like?”
“Really bad. Really bad,” Karl responded on the November 6 podcast episode. “Biden and the people around him very much blame Barack Obama for the effort to push Biden out of the campaign.”
Karl added, “It’s not a good relationship. If they had wanted to see each other, they absolutely would have,” referring to their lack of interaction at the restaurant.
Reports suggest that tensions rose after Vice President Kamala Harris lost decisively to President Trump in the 2024 election, following Biden’s withdrawal from the race due to concerns about his mental acuity. Some sources indicate that relations between the Obamas and Bidens were never particularly close even before these recent events.
The incident was also covered by Politico last month, highlighting public interest in how these developments reflect on longstanding alliances within Democratic Party leadership.
